Celebrating 30 Years of ICAN: 30 Crafts–Make Your Own Birthing Skirt

Labor is often a dance back and forth over the line between modesty and nudity. A birthing mama needs both privacy, and easy access. That’s where a birthing skirt comes in very handy! It is a short skirt made of three panels that overlap and are only sew together at the top so that it has slits on either side. If you need to squat or move into an unusual position, the skirt panels move out of the way and still keep you covered. Then, when you stand up, it all comes back together! Genius!

Here is a great tutorial on how to make one.

Happy squatting!
